HMI and BHP partner to bring additional short-stay accommodation to Port Hedland
15 May 2024
The Hedland Maritime Initiative (HMI) has partnered with BHP to bring 12 additional short-stay properties to the Port Hedland market.
The 12 HMI-acquired properties in the West End, comprising 24 bedrooms, will help to alleviate the shortage of short-stay properties in the area.
Individual tenants can stay at any of the properties for a minimum of five days and up to three months in any 12-month period. Three months is the maximum allowable stay in any 12-month period for any of the HMI-acquired properties, which is in accordance with the Port Hedland West End Improvement Scheme No. 1 (IS1).
“The short-stay accommodation model will assist in addressing the current market challenges for short-stay accommodation in Port Hedland, particularly for small businesses and not-for-profit organisations,” said Karlene Bylund, Managing Director of the HMI.
“We are thrilled that BHP has partnered with us on this project and has funded the furnishings of all 12 of the first properties we are putting out to the short-stay market. This contribution has secured the delivery of this much-needed service to Port Hedland.
“In addition, HMI has engaged local real estate agents, Hedland First National to provide short stay accommodation management services. Their expertise in short-stay accommodation management services will ensure the efficient and effective operation of the model”.
Cindy Dunham, BHP General Manager Port said: “It’s fantastic to see these short-term accommodation options open up and help take some pressure off the market.
“Short-stay availability in Hedland can be a challenge, so we are very pleased to partner with HMI to support this project.
“We hope these newly furnished properties will provide a comfortable stay for those visiting Port Hedland.”
