Short-Stay Properties

HMI has partnered with BHP to bring 15 short-stay properties to the Port Hedland market, with more to become available soon

The 15 HMI-acquired properties in the West End, comprising 23 bedrooms, will help to alleviate the shortage of short-stay properties in the area.

Individual tenants can stay at any of the properties for a minimum of five days and up to three months in any 12-month period. Three months is the maximum allowable stay in any 12-month period for any of the HMI-acquired properties, which is in accordance with the Port Hedland West End Improvement Scheme No. 1 (IS1).

The short-stay accommodation model will assist in addressing the current market challenges for short-stay accommodation in Port Hedland, particularly for small businesses and not-for-profit organisations. BHP has generously funded the furnishings of all of the properties being put out to the short-stay market. This contribution has secured the delivery of this much-needed service to Port Hedland.

In addition, HMI has engaged local real estate agents, Hedland First National to provide short stay accommodation management services.

Demolition Projects

Any future demolition projects will be focused on addressing properties with structural and safety defects.

The first demolition project was completed in May 2024 at six HMI acquired properties. The project addressed major safety and structural defects by demolishing four residential
dwellings and ancillary structures at two additional properties. All properties were vacant and advance notification was provided to surrounding residents of the works. Demolition works were undertaken by a local qualified and experienced contractor.

The second demolition project was completed in January 2025 at five HMI acquired properties without incident. The project addressed major safety and structural defects by demolishing residential dwellings and ancillary structures located at the five properties. All properties were vacant and advance notification was provided to surrounding residents of the works. Demolition works were undertaken by a local qualified and experienced contractor.
