Business After Hours Event wrap

15 April 2021

HMI and the Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce co-hosted a business community event on Wednesday 31 March 2021.

With more than 40 people in attendance, it was a great opportunity for local business operators and owners to learn more about the Maritime Precinct.

Karlene Bylund, HMI’s Managing Director presented the vision of the Maritime Precinct Development and discussed the Sub-Precincts proposed for the West End of Port Hedland, which include:

  • Commercial Portside Sub-Precinct
  • Business Park Sub-Precinct
  • Maritime Sub-Precinct
  • Education and Training Sub-Precinct
  • Landscape Sub-Precinct

The development of the Maritime Precinct Masterplan is well progressed in readiness for the redevelopment of HMI acquired land.

The Maritime Precinct Masterplan (MPM) provides a guide to development (including land use) of land acquired by the Hedland Maritime Initiative (HMI) within the Maritime Precinct, (MP).

The Maritime Precinct Masterplan includes:

  • PHVBS land development principles
  • Principles for each of the 5 sub-precincts
  • Land Use Matrixes for each of the 5 sub-precincts
  • Guidance to development opportunities for HMI acquired land
  • Use guidance consistent with IS1, and categorises at a sub-precinct level the uses as:
    • Supported
    • Conditionally supported
    • Discouraged

The MPM has regard to arrangements of land uses, heritage, character, amenity, natural features and movement networks, and the longer-term intentions for development in specific locations.

The MPM comprises five sub-precincts and includes recommendations on pedestrian and vehicle connections.

The MPM and five sub-precincts incorporate principles to guide HMI decision processes and allow others to understand HMI’s position on the development and activation of the IS1 area.
