  • Port Hedland-based company opens doors in heart of West End
  • Local businesses engaged for office fit-out and sign writing
  • Long-term goal of creating a unique and attractive maritime hub

Port Hedland’s business district has a new tenant, thanks to the Government’s plans for a revitalised West End.

Hedland Maritime Initiative (or HMI), the company created to administer the Port Hedland Voluntary Buy-Back Scheme (PHVBS) and facilitate the planning and development of a Maritime Precinct, has officially set up shop.

HMI Managing Director Karlene Bylund said the location was the perfect fit for their headquarters, as it will allow them to meet with local residents and stakeholders to discuss plans for the future.

“There was only one requirement for the HMI office location: it had to be in the heart of the West End, close to property owners and local stakeholders,” she said.

“Since last July, HMI has been engaging with property owners and a number of industry and government stakeholders. It will be great to welcome them to our new office in Wedge Street for future discussions.”

HMI engaged a number of local suppliers to complete the office fit-out and sign writing. Their work has helped to make the new space stand out.

“It was important for us to engage with local suppliers at the first opportunity,” Ms Bylund continued.

“We are committed to working with the local community, and with local businesses in particular, to create a Maritime Precinct for everyone.

“We are also completing the recruitment process for two new Port Hedland based roles which, once onboard, will double our existing team and enhance our ability to both administer the PHVBS and progress the planning for the Maritime Precinct.”
