May Business Breakfast Wrap Up

10 May 2021

Karlene Bylund, HMI’s Managing Director presented the vision of the Maritime Precinct Development and discussed the Sub-Precincts proposed for the West End of Port Hedland, which include:

  • Commercial Portside Sub-Precinct
  • Business Park Sub-Precinct
  • Maritime Sub-Precinct
  • Education and Training Sub-Precinct
  • Landscape Sub-Precinct

Karlene presented opportunities proposed within the Education and Training Sub-Precinct. The Sub-Precinct’s key principles are to facilitate the maritime education and training needs of industry and the community, and incorporate, where practicable, proposals or aspects that encourage tourism, cultural, and heritage activation.

Work has commenced on the processes involved in developing this plan from a concept to an operating college.

  • The philosophy of the college is where possible to work with existing training providers and centres to create a cohesive environment to expand the training market in the Pilbara.
  • We are endeavouring to identify key strategic courses and develop appropriate facilities as soon as practicable to establish a sustainable nucleus around which we will be able to build a meaningful college.
  • A Maritime Simulator is one of many Iconic Proposals with potential.
